Peak Re adds Swiss Re’s Clarence Wong as Chief Economist

Hong Kong domiciled reinsurer Peak Re has announced the appointment of Clarence Wong as its new Chief Economist, effective November 16th, 2020.

clarence_wongIn his new role, Wong will report directly to Peak Re’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Franz Josef Hahn. He takes on responsibility for delivering strategic insights on economic, insurance and emerging risk to the firm and its key stakeholders.

Additionally, states Peak Re, Wong will also take oversight of the development of thought-leadership content for the reinsurer.

He brings more than two decades of experience in the insurance and reinsurance market. Wong has worked at global reinsurer Swiss Re since 1999, most recently as the Chief Economist for Asia, where he oversaw the firm’s research initiatives around the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to Swiss Re, Wong spent nine years with HSBC’s economic research department, worked with PwC in its management consulting unit, and also the R&D department at Hutchinson Trading Ltd.

Commenting on the appointment, Hahn said: “We are delighted to welcome Clarence on board, as we look to provide stronger analysis and insights for our key stakeholders.
