Relm Insurance, an insurer providing coverage for businesses operating in emerging and specialised sectors, has appointed Mike Morales as Head of Claims, based in New York.

Relm Insurance logoIn his new role, Morales will lead the insurer’s claims function across insurance and reinsurance, responsible for enhancing the company’s claims capabilities globally aligning with the overarching strategy to expand Relm’s product portfolio and international presence.

Additionally, he will focus on strengthening technical claims capabilities, governance, and connectivity between claims, underwriting, and other areas of the business.

Morales has over 25 years of experience across claims, underwriting, and brokerage. He has held senior roles at global insurers including AIG, CNA, Zurich, and Everest Specialty Underwriters, where his experience has spanned specialty claims and underwriting leadership.

Most recently, he led Specialty Wholesale Insurance Solutions, a subsidiary of HUB International.

Morales said, “Claims are rarely black and white, particularly in the lines of business Relm operates in. I’ve worked across claims, underwriting, and brokerage, so I understand the different perspectives that come to the table when a complex claim arises.

“I want brokers and insureds to know they have a claims partner who understands the technical issues, but is also pragmatic and willing to sit down, have the conversation, and work through difficult business challenges.”

Becky Vernon, Chief Legal Officer, Relm Insurance, commented, “Claims is where the value of an insurance product is ultimately tested, so it’s critical that the experience we provide matches the quality of our underwriting.

“Mike brings a rare combination of claims leadership, underwriting experience, and time spent on the brokerage side of the market. He understands the technical complexities of specialty claims, but also the commercial realities facing brokers and insureds. That perspective will be important as we continue to build our global claims capabilities.”
