Bermuda-based Ascot Group Limited (AGL) has announced Neill Currie’s appointment to Executive Chairman, with effect from 21st June.
In his role as Executive Chairman, Currie will work with AGL’s management and board of directors to grow its operations and capabilities.
Prior to his appointment, Currie was co-founder and CEO of RenaissanceRe Holdings – he led the firm from 2005 until his retirement in 2013; under his leadership the company grew into a successful global insurer and reinsurer.
Currie called the opportunity to work with AGL’s management team and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) to build a global property and casualty company “uniquely compelling.”
He said; “I am looking forward to working with the many people associated with AGL to build a company that will provide its clients with an array of best-in-class insurance and reinsurance solutions.”
AGL holds global specialty insurance underwriter, Ascot Underwriting, which manages Syndicate 1414 at Lloyd’s, and Ascot Underwriting Bermuda Limited, a managing general agency.

CPPIB, who acquired these operations in 2016, plans to invest in the AGL platform to build a global property and casualty insurer and reinsurer.
