Sampo Group announces new CFO, insurance business surges

Sampo Group, a Nordic financial and insurance company, has announced that Knut Arne Alsaker will be replacing Peter Johansson as its Chief Financial Officer.

Knut Arne AlsakerJohansson retires on January 1, 2019 after 33 years with Sampo; he has been a member of the firm’s Executive Board since 2001.

Alsaker is currently CFO of If P&C Group and a member of the Sampo Group Executive Committee. He has an extensive background with the company, having previously worked as its Chief Risk Officer and Head of Reinsurance.

This leadership change comes amid surging before-tax profits for January/June amounting to €1,153 million, up from €865 a year ago.

“Sampo’s first half of the year was strong especially in our insurance businesses,” explained Kari Stadigh, Group Chief Executive Officer and President.

“In January-June, If’s number of customers increased in all markets and combined ratio was excellent. It is also gratifying to see Nordea’s turnaround to strengthen.”

Additionally, combined ratio for P&C insurance for January/June 2018 was 85.8% compared to 86.5% a year ago.
