Sompo International, the Bermuda headquartered specialty lines and reinsurance unit of Sompo Holdings, has hired Patrick Cove from rival Qatar Re to become the firms new Global Head of Aviation Reinsurance business.
Cove joins the Sompo International Global Specialty Reinsurance Team and takes on responsibility for reinsurance business in the airline hull and liability, aircraft manufacturers’ products liability, and general aviation risk arenas.
Cove will report to Adrian Poxon, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Specialty Reinsurance and will be based in the firm’s Zurich office.
Cove joins Sompo International from Qatar Re, where he was most recently Head of Aviation & Marine Treaty Reinsurance.
Prior to that he held underwriting roles with several other leading insurers, including spending time working at XL Re.
Cove has more than 20 years of aviation treaty experience gained from working in both the London and Zurich insurance markets. Sompo International expects that his technical expertise will be instrumental as he takes responsibility for the aviation reinsurance business line.
