Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re has promoted Claudia Cordioli to a role which will see her taking responsibility for all of Western and Southern Europe at the reinsurer, as Managing Director for the region.

Claudia Cordioli, Swiss ReAs from April 1st, Cordioli will move into the position of CEO for Western and Southern Europe, which will see her tasked with leading the regional activities of the reinsurance firm and identifying opportunities for growth there.

The appointment sees the leadership of Swiss Re’s France, Benelux and Switzerland unit merging with its Iberia, Mediterranean and Italy unit under her newly appointed oversight.

Cordioli has been with Swiss Re since 2003, with her most recent role being as Managing Director for Italy, Iberia and the Mediterranean, which saw her leading reinsurance market strategy in that region.

This appointment follows the move of Ivo Hux, who currently heads up the France, Benelux and Switzerland region to the role of General Manager of Swiss Re Europe S.A., Luxemburg.

Jean-Jacques Henchoz, CEO Reinsurance EMEA for Swiss Re, commented on the news, “The consolidated Western and Southern European region offers Swiss Re a stronger basis to approach this significant group of insurance markets. This move gives us the strategic focus to strengthen our long-established relationships and to help our partners grow, especially through technological innovation and tailored reinsurance solutions.

“Claudia Cordioli’s work in helping our partners close protection gaps, especially regarding natural catastrophe protection, as well as her strong financial knowledge, make her the ideal choice to lead our partnerships in this region.”
