Swiss Re consolidates Western & Southern Europe leadership under Cordioli

Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re has promoted Claudia Cordioli to a role which will see her taking responsibility for all of Western and Southern Europe at the reinsurer, as Managing Director for the region.

Claudia Cordioli, Swiss ReAs from April 1st, Cordioli will move into the position of CEO for Western and Southern Europe, which will see her tasked with leading the regional activities of the reinsurance firm and identifying opportunities for growth there.

The appointment sees the leadership of Swiss Re’s France, Benelux and Switzerland unit merging with its Iberia, Mediterranean and Italy unit under her newly appointed oversight.

Cordioli has been with Swiss Re since 2003, with her most recent role being as Managing Director for Italy, Iberia and the Mediterranean, which saw her leading reinsurance market strategy in that region.

Now her expanded responsibilities will see her with similar oversight over a broader swathe of Europe, leading initiatives to expand Swiss Re’s core strategic activities in technology-driven underwriting of natural catastrophe risks, the use of reinsurance as a capital tool and improving the digital experience of insurance consumers.

She joined the reinsurer 15 years ago and has worked her way through positions including as a Senior Accountant, heading up the P&C reporting team, leading external reporting, and as CFO for Reinsurance in the EMEA region.

Before joining Swiss Re, Cordioli worked at KPMG as a consultant and also spent time at technology firm Computer Sciences Corporation.

This appointment follows the move of Ivo Hux, who currently heads up the France, Benelux and Switzerland region to the role of General Manager of Swiss Re Europe S.A., Luxemburg.
