Swiss Re has appointed Dean Galligan as Head of Transactions for the Life & Health Reinsurance (L&H Re) Business Unit, effective 1 August 2026.
He joins Swiss Re from Phoenix Group, where he served as Chief Capital Officer and was a member of the FTSE 100 Group Executive Committee.
Galligan will be based in London in the newly created role, where he will be responsible for uniting L&H Re’s global teams involved in structuring complex capital and balance sheet solutions, as well as longevity reinsurance transactions.

Before joining Phoenix Group, Galligan was Global Head of Cross Asset Structuring & Solutions at Barclays Investment Bank, where he led complex transaction execution for institutional clients, including insurers.
He previously spent more than 15 years at Goldman Sachs, holding a series of senior leadership roles advising re/insurers on capital optimisation, risk transfer, and structured financing.
