Alesco expands energy division with two new partners

Alesco Risk Management Services (Alesco) has announced the appointment of two further partners within its growing energy division, Alison Schwab and Mark Smith.

Alesco logoSchwab, who brings more than a decade of experience in energy casualty and a unique knowledge of the US retail market, began her new role on 22 January and will focus primarily on Alesco’s energy casualty business,reporting to Simon Clarkson, managing partner.

Speaking about her appointment, Schwab said; “within the U.S., Alesco has a first class reputation as an independent broker, so relocating from Houston to London to join this impressive team was a big, yet natural, decision for me when the opportunity arose. I look forward to drawing upon my knowledge of the US retail market to strengthen the team further.”

Schwab joins Alesco from Wortham Insurance in Houston where she held the position of director.

Prior to Wortham, Schwab was with Lockton in Houston for eight years, and spent seven years as an environmental underwriter at AIG.

Mark Smith is set to join Alesco’s technical team from AAA Insurance & Reinsurance Brokers in February, he brings more than two decades experience in insurance broking, with particular expertise in technical trading within the African and Eastern European energy markets.

Smith commented; “I am incredibly excited to be joining such an established and well respected organisation. This new role will allow me to put my international expertise to good use as Alesco continues its international expansion.”

Clarkson added; “In 2017 we had a dozen new team members join Alesco’s energy practice, with more than 100 across the wider business, so it’s great to continue that momentum in 2018 with these two equally impressive hires from the global broking world.”
