Allianz Re has appointed Thorsten Fromhold as Chief Group Reinsurance Buyer (CGRB), effective January 1, 2023. The role will form a new, dedicated function within the Board of Allianz Re, separate from assumed business.
In his role Fromhold will be overseeing all external Allianz reinsurance placements including cessions out of Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS) and Allianz Trade. He will also be responsible for Group-wide holistic reinsurer and reinsurance broker relationship management.
According to the announcement, Eva Redomske, Head of Treaty Reinsurance at AGCS and Benoît des Cressonnières of Allianz Trade Re, will have a matrix reporting line to Fromhold to coordinate external cessions, broker and reinsurer management topics in parallel to their solid reporting lines into their respective legal entities.
Fromhold joined Allianz as Senior Pricing Actuary in 2006. He has also held the roles of Global Head of Pricing P&C, Head of Property & Engineering Underwriting, and Head of Portfolio Management and Retrocession, which is his current role.
He started his career as a reinsurance broker and actuary at Guy Carpenter & Co, where he served as a Reinsurance Broker for almost two years. Before joining Allianz he served as Pricing Actuary for a Swiss reinsurer.
Allianz Re commented: “With his deep business knowledge and strong analytical expertise, as well as his proven leadership skills, Thorsten has the experience, the network and all necessary capabilities for this new role. We wish him the best of success in his new role.”
As Head of Portfolio Management and Retrocession, Fromhold has been working closely with CUO Jan Störmann and all brokers and key reinsurers for the past four years.
Störmann, who has been in the industry for more than 30 years – 15 of them at Allianz-, will retire by the end of June 2023.
Allianz said: “Jan Störmann’s responsibilities as CUO including the responsibility for the assumed business from our Allianz entities will be transferred in the beginning of next year, and a search is ongoing. We will announce his successor in due course.
“We thank Jan Störmann for his cooperation and inspiration over the years and wish him all the best for his future!”
