Baldwin & Lyons, a specialty property and casualty holding company, has appointed David W. Michelson to its Board of Directors.
Michelson, who will also become a member of the company’s Audit Committee, has spent the previous 26 years at National Interstate Corporation, where he most recently served as a Senior Advisor.
Until 2016, Michelson was President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Interstate, during which time he was also a Director of the company.
“As someone who has worked in the insurance space for their entire career, specifically property-casualty, David will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Board,” said Steve Shapiro, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at Baldwin & Lyons.
He continued: “His longstanding tenure at the helm of a publicly traded insurance company that specializes in commercial transportation allot him a keen understanding of our business. I look forward to the sharp, strategic insight that David will bring to the table.”
While at National Interstate, Michelson also held various other leadership roles, including Vice President, Senior Vice President, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Office, and Board Chairman.
Before joining National Interstate in 1992, he also spent time at Liberty National Fire Insurance Company, Reliance Insurance Company and Progressive Corporation.
Through its subsidiaries, Baldwin & Lyons specialises in providing liability and worker compensation coverage for trucking and public transportation fleets, as well as coverage for trucking industry independent contractors.
