The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has announced the appointment of Liane Hirner and Desislav Danov as members of its Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group (IRSG).
EIOPA consults its stakeholder groups on action concerning regulatory technical standards and their implementation.
Members of stakeholder groups can also submit opinions and advice to EIOPA, and are expected to notify the Authority of inconsistent application of EU law and supervisory practices.
Hirner has served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) since February 2018, where she is focused on finance and accounting.
Prior to this she spent 16 years at PwC, the latter half of which were spent heading the insurance department in Austria.
She is also involved in the Austrian Financial Reporting and Auditing Committee (AFRAC), the Expert Board for Commercial Law and Auditing at the Chamber of Public Accountants and Tax Advisors (KSW), Accountancy Europe, the Austrian Institute of Public Accountants (IWP), and the Austrian Insurance Association (VVO).
Danov, meanwhile, is a Co-founder and Managing Director of the Fintechguardian – an EU non-governmental organisation dedicated to fintech consumer protection.
He began his insurance industry career in 1998 at State insurance institute – DZI in Bulgaria, later working as a freelance insurance agent, a senior underwriter in Armeec JSC, and head of external projects at broker ZBK Balkan.
From 2009 to 2012, Danov was part of the Insurance Supervision Department of the Financial Supervision Commission of Bulgaria, and he has since been active in multiple civic initiatives aimed at protection of financial services users.
