Felipe Hoetz joins Clyde & Co Chile to lead insurance practice

Global law firm Clyde & Co has hired re/insurance and claims settlement expert, Felipe Hoetz as a partner to lead its Chile insurance practice.

Clyde & CoHoetz holds over two and half decades of experience and is the legal representative in Chile for the Lloyd’s of London insurance market.

He joins Clyde & Co from Acuña, Hoetz & Cifuentes, where he spent more than eight years as a partner.

Hoetz commented on his appointment, stating, “Joining Clyde & Co to lead the Insurance and Reinsurance area is a great challenge and honour.

“Clyde & Co is one of the world’s leading law firms with an exceptional reputation in insurance, an area that we will seek to position as number one in Chile and expand in Latin America.”

Hoetz is also a board member of the Ibero-Latin American Centre for Insurance and Reinsurance Arbitration and Mediation and is vice-president of the Reinsurance working group of the Ibero-Latin American Committee of the International Insurance Law Association.

In addition, he has previously acted as president of the Chilean Association of Insurance Adjusters and has chaired the International Federation of Adjusting Associations.

Clyde & Co Chile now has 12 local partners, who lead a team of more than 40 lawyers specialising in corporate law, litigation, tax, labour, and project development for sectors including projects & construction, energy, trade & commodities, and now insurance.

In other related news, the firm recently released a report warning that a judgment from the Court of Appeal could hamper the UK government’s attempts to maintain downward pressure on the cost of motor injuries.

At the beginning of the year, Clyde & Co appointed both Peter Barnes and Charlotte Kelly as partners in its global insurance practice. They both joined the firm from DWF with 17 other team members.

Just last week, the firm announced that is to enter the Italian market, opening a new office in the country in the coming months and naming Leonardo Giani, a partner from Simmons & Simmons’ litigation and insurance team, to head the launch.
