Guy Carpenter & Company, the reinsurance broker and wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, has hired Shiv Kumar as President and Global Leader of GC Securities, Capital Markets.
Most recently, Kumar was Global Head of Insurance Structured Finance at Goldman, Sachs & Co., and brings over 23 years’ experience in the re/insurance industry and capital markets to his new role.
He will now be responsible for overseeing the GC Securities Capital Markets team, and will report to David Priebe, Vice Chairman of Guy Carpenter.
He is expected to enhance GC Securities’ ability to identify and execute convergence capital solutions, which currently include catastrophe bonds, sidecars, quota shares, collateralised reinsurance, reinsurance transformers, derivatives and industry loss warranties, as well as a suite of reinsurance analytics tools.
Priebe said: “Shiv brings decades of highly successful transactional, client-relationship and business leadership capabilities to Guy Carpenter. He will strengthen our ability to develop customized, profit-enhancing and risk-mitigating capital markets solutions for current and future clients.

While at Goldman, Kumar was the project lead for more than 100 transaction, arranged $25 billion in financing, and covered insurance companies in the property and casualty (P&C), life and health, mortgage, and public sectors.
He has also previously served as Head of Analytical Services at AIR Worldwide, and has expertise in structuring complex financial transactions, such as asset accumulation, capital structure optimisation, and legacy restructuring.
