Hamilton hires Nikhil Barvé for Outwards Reinsurance and Underwriting Supervision

Hamilton Insurance Group has hired Nikhil Barvé from Markel to take up the role of Head of Outwards Reinsurance and Underwriting Supervision in the firms Lloyd’s operations.

nikhil-bharve-hamilton-underwritingBarvé will report to Chief Executive Officer Dermot O’Donohoe and Active Underwriter and Head of Treaty Trevor Carvey of Hamilton Underwriting Limited, the managing agency of Syndicate 3334 and the Lloyd’s operations of Hamilton Insurance Group. He started in the role on August 29, 2017.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Nik to our team,” commented O’Donohoe. “He has in-depth knowledge of the Lloyd’s and European markets and will play a leading role in our outwards reinsurance strategy, working closely with our underwriting and risk departments to develop controls around the business as we grow.”

Barvé has worked overseas and in London, including at Lloyd’s, in a career spanning 30+ years as Underwriting Manager, Reinsurance Underwriter and Ceded Reinsurance Manager within a number of regulatory environments including Bermuda. He joins Hamilton from his most recent position with Markel International where he was Underwriting Manager, Wholesale.

He previously worked for International General Insurance Company as a treaty underwriter, most recently helping to establish London subsidiary, IGI UK. From 2002 to 2007, he worked in Bermuda combining underwriting treaty business and outwards reinsurance placement. He also held a poisition as part of an executive management team responsible for run-off management.

Prior to his time in Bermuda, Barvé was active in treaty reinsurance underwriting and ceded reinsurance in the Lloyd’s of London market.
