Bermuda domiciled insurance holding company, James River Group Holdings, Ltd., has appointed Mike Hoffmann to the newly created role of Group Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), reporting to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Frank D’Orazio.
As CUO, Hoffmann will head up a team with responsibility for underwriting, enterprise risk, and ceded reinsurance strategy across the group.
He joins the firm from Bermuda-based reinsurer Everest Re, where he most recently served as Head of Risk and Ceded Re.
Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years with Allied World Assurance, latterly as Global Insurance Chief Underwriting Officer.
Prior to this, Hoffmann worked at global re/insurer Chubb for 14 years in a variety of roles in the U.S. and Bermuda.
Commenting on the arrival of Hoffmann, CEO D’Orazio said: “It is very exciting to welcome Mike to James River. With over thirty years of deep property and casualty underwriting and risk expertise, he is the right person to lead this key function. I am looking forward to working with him again.”
