JB Boda adds Kiguru to Nairobi office, eyes Africa expansion

Indian broker JB Boda Insurance & Reinsurance Brokers (PVT) Ltd has announced the appointment of James Kiguru to its Nairobi office, as it eyes further expansion into the Africa agriculture market.

JB BodaKiguru will work to drive the broker’s agriculture Panafric strategy, support the existing clientele base seeking agro-based organic growth and creating new clients through capacity building, system testing, set up and follow up support.

JB Boda has been active in the African markets since the 1990s and has a Sub-Sahara region liaison office based in Nairobi Kenya.

But now it is looking to explore new agriculture re/insurance opportunities across the continent by building capacity across the value chain.

To this end, it is looking to establish partnerships with local governments, development agencies and relevant private companies, as well as focusing on innovations such as digitisation.

JB Boda currently has another four executives who work at the Nairobi office in General and Life business, as well as a team of Agribusiness underwriters that operate from the head office in Mumbai.

Kiguru joins the company from UAP Old Mutual group where he was the manager in charge of agriculture insurance for Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan and Rwanda.

He took up this role in 2015, prior to which he worked with AON Kenya Insurance Brokers as the Account manager in charge of Agriculture where he set up the crop and livestock specific section of agriculture.

He has also been involved in the development of the Kenya Agriculture Insurance Programme, which is used by the Kenya government to offer subsidised agriculture insurance to the Kenya farming and pastoral communities.

JB Boda is active in most countries on the African continent. In terms of Agriculture business, it is currently active in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Malawi, with plans to expand to other east African countries.
