Lloyd’s makes leadership appointments within EMEA region

The specialist Lloyd’s of London insurance and reinsurance marketplace has appointed Mark Cooper to the newly created role of Head of Market Development for the European Market, and has also named Amit Khilosia as the new Regional Head for Africa.

Lloyd'sCooper has been with Lloyd’s since 2015 and in his new role will join the Lloyd’s Brussels executive committee, with responsibility for delivering the market’s commercial strategy in Europe and also managing the network of Lloyd’s European branches.

He joined Lloyd’s as General Representative for the Middle East where he was based in the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), with responsibility for developing and implementing the marketplace’s business and market development strategy across the MENA markets, while also managing the operations of the Dubai platform.

Cooper will continue to serve on the Lloyd’s Dubai board where he has been a Director for the last four years. During the transition period, Lloyd’s has announced that Dean Wickens, Senior Manager, Stakeholder Engagement in the Lloyd’s International Regulatory Affairs team, will support the Dubai office.

At the same time, Sonja Rottiers, Regional Director for EMEA and Lloyd’s Brussels Chief Executive Officer (CEO), will join the Board to replace Cameron Murray who is to step down as Chairman in November.

The insurance and reinsurance marketplace has also announced that in Africa, Khilosia has been appointed Regional Head, Africa. In this role, Khilosia will be responsible for delivering the market’s commercial strategy and enhancing Lloyd’s market access and profile in Africa.

He has been with the marketplace since 1989 and has held a number of roles in Finance and Market Development. He has helped to negotiate and develop Lloyd’s licenses and access in Africa and also established Lloyd’s South Africa Ltd., where he served as Managing Director. He was appointed Regional Manager for Africa in 2013, and in his new role, will join the Lloyd’s South Africa Board and will continue to have oversight of Lloyd’s Representatives in the region.

The appointments of both Cooper and Khilosia are effective July 1st, 2019 and both will report to Rottiers, who commented: “I am delighted to welcome Mark to the team and to have Amit leading Lloyd’s work across Africa. Their strong commercial acumen and experience in market development, both within the Lloyd’s and company markets, will be an asset as we continue to grow our presence across the region.”
