Markel International has expanded its marine team with the appointment of Debbie O’Sullivan as Senior Yacht Underwriter.

markelO’Sullivan will join existing Senior Yacht Underwriter Mark Wimbridge and Assistant Yacht Underwriter Chris Lytton to form a team of three that handles Markel’s global demand for large yacht risks.

She will operate out of New Jersey, and will focus on underwriting risks on larger U.S yachts with values between $2 million and $25 million.

O’Sullivan has 35 years’ experience in writing marine risks, and joins Markel from Chubb, where she has served since 1986, most recently as Vice President for North American Yacht Underwriting, Product and Pricing Manager.

Chris Fenn, Marine Managing Director at Markel International, commented: “Since Mike’s appointment in 2016, Markel has established itself as a major player in the yacht market. Debbie’s appointment continues that progress, adding the US to our market interests in London, Singapore and Dubai.”

Wimbridge added:” We have known Debbie for a long time and we are delighted she’s going to be part of our team. She’s extremely well known and well connected in the US market and has an important role to play in broadening the distribution reach for our skills and expertise.”
