International law firm McDermott Will & Emery has hired a team of eight new partners to join its newly-created Insurance Transactions and Regulation Group.

The team have worked together for many years, most recently at rival law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath.

They have now moved over to McDermott en masse in a move that the firm expects to dramatically expand its capabilities in the insurance, transaction and regulation sector.

Going forward they will be based in McDermott’s New York, San Francisco and London offices.

New partners include Andrea Best, Dan Brown, H. Michael Byrne, Thomas Dawson, John Finston, Parimah Hassouri, Michael Halsband and John Mulhern.

“We are excited to land this wonderful team,” said Ira Coleman, Chairman of McDermott. “They are first-class lawyers and will help us grow in a very important vertical. One thing we know: Clients want lawyers with deep industry knowledge and expertise—and no one is better than this group.”

Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Transactions Practice Group, also commented: “This group has worked together for many years and has extensive experience and an outstanding reputation in the insurance industry. They are the right team to serve as the cornerstone of our new Insurance Transactions and Regulation Group.”

“McDermott offers a unique platform that allows our team to grow and enhance our capabilities across different practices,” added Michael Halsband, the new global leader of McDermott’s Insurance Transactions and Regulation Group.

“We are excited to bring a new focus to the firm and provide clients with a full-scale service for all their insurance-focused transactions and regulatory needs, whether that be US-based or internationally.”
