Munich Re has announced the appointment of Nicholas J. Gartside, a Managing Director at J.P Morgan Asset Management, as a member of the Board of Management and Chief Investment Officer.
As CIO, Gartside will be responsible for the whole Asset Management of Munich Re (Group), starting on 18 March 2019.
Gartside is currently serving at J.P. Morgan Asset Management in London, where he is International CIO of the “Global Fixed Income, Currency & Commodities” group.
Before joining J.P. Morgan in 2010, he was Head of Global Fixed Income at Schroder Investment Management.
Chairman of the Board of Management Joachim Wenning stated that the creation of a new board division – one that appears to introduce asset management responsibilities at a Board level – was driven by a belief that the group can further optimise the risk-return-profile of its investment portfolio.
Wenning added that an essential pre-requisite to achieve this is to “centralise results responsibility.”
