RenaissanceRe has made several appointments that it says will further the company’s work in its ESG aims.
The firm said it had promoted Harriet James to be VP of its ESG strategy within the Corporate Strategy Team, where she will be responsible for managing strategy across the company. It said it had also given Jeffrey Manson the role of managing public sector partnerships focusing on climate change.
RenaissanceRe said Kevin J. O’Donnell, president and CEO, had accepted the role of chair of ClimateWise, a body to bring together reinsurers, insurers, brokers, and service providers.
O’Donnell said in a statement: “Climate change is one of the most complex challenges faced by the world and our business. As a reinsurer, we believe that we play an important role in managing climate risk while helping facilitate the transition to a lower carbon economy. I am honoured to chair ClimateWise and look forward to working with leaders across our industry and the University of Cambridge to strengthen our collective response to this important issue.”
This is not the only time in recent weeks that RenaissanceRe has graced these pages with its ESG strategy. It was reported here on 21 March that Cathal Carr had been appointed its new SVP underwriting, global head of climate and sustainability strategy.
O’Donnell added: “I am pleased with the progress we have made furthering our ESG strategy. This is an area of focus for all of our stakeholders, including many of our employees, and I look forward to the passion and contributions that Harriet, Cathal, and Jeff will bring to this critical part of our business. I am confident that they will continue to progress RenaissanceRe’s role as a positive force for change.”
