WR Berkley has named Scott M. McDonough as president of Midwest Employers Casualty (MEC), succeeding Timothy Galvin.
The company said, meanwhile, that Galvin will become chairman of MEC. Both appointments are to be effective immediately.
J. Robert Berkley, Jr., president and CEO of the company, said: “We are exceptionally grateful to Tim for his numerous contributions to both MEC and WR Berkley Corporation over his many years of service. We are fortunate that he will be continuing as chairman of MEC and will also be supporting the broader group’s activities. In addition, we are extremely pleased to welcome Scott to the group. His depth of experience will complement the expertise of MEC’s talented team as they continue to provide best-in-class products and services to their customers.”
The news of McDonough’s appointment comes a few weeks after the firm posted record underwriting income of $274.4m for the first quarter of the year. The company’s net income similarly more than doubled from $229.5m to $590.6m, while operating income moved from $201.8m to $306.9m. This followed reports here on Reinsurance News in January that the firm was reporting twofold income growth over 2021.
McDonough joins MEC after over thirty-five years working for The Hartford, where he was most recently head of large property between June 2021 and April 2022.
