Financial services company, Horace Mann Educators Corporation has appointed Stephen J. McAnena as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, effective May 8, 2023.
In the roles, McAnena will work closely with Marita Zuraitis, Horace Mann’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
McAnena joins Horace Mann from Farmers Insurance where he held the role of President of Distribution, Life and Financial Services from 2019 to 2022, and President of Personal Lines since 2022.
Prior to Farmers Insurance, McAnena spent over 25 years working at Liberty Mutual, where he held a variety of different roles including serving as President of Business Insurance, President of Liberty Mutual Benefits, President of Liberty Mutual Personal Lines Distribution and Personal Lines Chief Product Officer.
“Steve is an accomplished leader with an outstanding track record of driving strategic outcomes that enhance value,” Zuraitis commented.

In early 2022, Horace Mann completed its acquisition of Madison National Life Insurance Company, Inc., a provider of group life, disability and specialty health insurance for educators and public sector employees.
