Icen Risk, a specialist transactional risk insurer providing insurance solutions for complex corporate, legal and tax risks, has expanded its tax liability insurance offering into the Nordic region as part of its wider European growth strategy.
As part of the expansion, Icen has appointed Oskar Bonér to lead its new Nordic tax liability practice. Based in Stockholm, Bonér will work with clients and brokers across the region.
He joins Icen from PwC Sweden, where he was a Senior Manager focused on cross-border M&A transactions, and brings more than a decade of international tax experience advising corporates, financial sponsors and investors on complex tax matters.
The launch follows increased demand for specialist tax liability insurance solutions across the Nordic markets. The expansion forms part of the company’s strategy to develop its presence in key European markets and provide clients with specialist insurance solutions in response to complex transactional, regulatory and tax risks.
Icen said the Nordic launch also reflects its continued investment in underwriting capabilities following Zurich Insurance Group’s strategic equity investment in the business in April 2025.
The expansion follows a period of wider international development for Icen. Over the past 12 months, the company has expanded into North America and established a dedicated contingent risk insurance team, broadening its offering across transactional, legal and tax risks.
Dawn Bhoma, Managing Principal of Icen Risk, said: “Our tax liability insurance team has experienced exceptional growth over the past 12 months, driven by increasing market adoption of the product and strong demand for specialist underwriting expertise. Clients and brokers continue to value our combination of stable capacity, technically focused but commercially minded underwriting, and a proactive approach to claims handling.
“The Nordics represent an important market for us and we are delighted to welcome Oskar to the team. His deep technical knowledge, regional expertise and strong reputation in the market will be invaluable as we continue to expand our tax offering internationally.”
Robert Brown, Managing Principal of Icen Risk, commented: “We have seen a significant increase in tax insurance opportunities across the Nordic region in recent years, reflecting the growing sophistication of dealmaking activity and the increasing use of insurance as a risk management tool.
“Establishing a dedicated Nordic tax liability practice enables us to provide clients with local expertise backed by Icen’s pan-European platform, creative underwriting approach and market-leading service standards.”
Bonér added: “Icen has established itself as one of the most respected and innovative specialists in the tax liability insurance market. The business combines technical excellence with an entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine commitment to delivering solutions for clients and brokers.
“I am excited to join at such a dynamic stage of its growth and look forward to helping build the firm’s presence in the Nordics while further developing a best-in-class tax insurance offering for the region.”
