Markel International has hired Michael Briggs as a professional indemnity (PI) underwriter.
Briggs’ appointment marks Markel International’s expansion plans to drive further growth and investment in its PI portfolio.
He will be based in Markel’s London office, and report to Duncan Sinnott, senior underwriter of professional indemnity and telecommunications, media, and technology.
In his underwriting role, he will help develop the Markel PI portfolio, supporting the underwriting team, and building client relationships.
His main focus will be on the organisation’s traditional portfolio, which includes solicitors, financial services, and miscellaneous business.
Briggs holds eight years of experience in the insurance industry, spending the first five of them in claims at indemnity solutions provider, Collegiate, and his last three underwriting at Liberty Specialty Markets.
Sinnott commented: “At Markel, we are seeking continued profitable growth into 2022. Michael’s appointment reflects our continued investment in our PI portfolio and commitment to remain as a leading market in our specialised areas.
“Michael comes from a claims and underwriting background, so he will add a new perspective and dynamic to the team.”
Briggs added: “I am delighted to be joining Markel’s professional indemnity team as a PI underwriter. Markel has a reputation for its collaborative and forward-thinking environment, which is why it was important for me to secure this role.”
