Munich Re’s long-standing Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Board of Management member Jörg Schneider is to step down at his own request on December 31st, 2018.

Christoph Jurecka, who has served as CFO of Munich Re’s primary insurance subsidiary ERGO Group AG for the past seven years, has been announced as Schneider’s successor.

Schneider, who turns 60 this year, will retire from the Board of Management 18 years after being appointed to the position. He has been Munich Re’s CFO since 2001, making him the longest-serving CFO among DAX 30 companies and the majority of major European re/insurers.

Schneider’s successor, 43 year-old Christoph Jurecka, began his career as an academic at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where he also completed his doctorate.

Following a number of career stages in financial and risk management, including CFO and Chief Risk Officer positions for insurance companies in Germany and Switzerland, Jurecka joined Munich Re Group, where he was appointed to the Board of Management of the ERGO Group, in 2011.
