Munich Re Specialty Insurance, a division of German reinsurance giant Munich Re, has announced the appointment of Elizabeth Kramer, formerly of Zurich North America, as its new Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
In her new role, Kramer will report to Mike Kerner, Munich Re Specialty Insurance’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and will be tasked with overseeing the underwriting strategy and execution as the firm continues to expand and diversify its coverage capabilities.
Kramer brings a wealth of specialty insurance experience to the role, as well as expertise in leading underwriting divisions from her previous roles at global re/insurers.
Prior to Munich Re Specialty Insurance, she served as the Senior Vice President, Head Technical Underwriting – Alternative Markets, at Zurich North America. In this capacity, she had oversight of underwriting strategy, execution and underwriting quality for a diverse set of specialty and program business in the U.S.
Before Zurich, Kramer held Technical Underwriting leadership positions covering casualty and commercial auto liability lines across North America. Between 1993 and 2017, she held numerous roles at reinsurer Gen Re, largely in the areas of Casualty Treaty Underwriting and Product Management.
Commenting on the appointment, Kerner said: “We are very excited to welcome Liz to Munich Re Specialty Insurance as she takes on this leadership role at our organization. With more than 25 years of insurance industry experience and her proven track record in leading underwriting divisions, Liz will help us on our mission to continue to profitably scale our business while directly meeting the needs of our clients.”
