London-headquartered specialist insurer Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has partnered with consulting and IT solutions firm, NTT DATA UK, to drive a more efficient service through robotics.

Tokio Marine Kiln logoRobotic Process Automation (RPA) is an application of technology aimed at automating business processes, leveraging automation to optimise data-processing capabilities.

“As RPA technology continues to advance, we are developing more innovative approaches to automation,” said Simon Williams, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NTT DATA UK.

“Insurers are focusing on reducing operating expenses, increasing broker responsiveness and removing repetitive work so business teams can focus on higher value activities. RPA is a core component of any organisation’s digital approach.”

TMK has announced that NNT’s Cargo 10 Virtual Worker, a service that helps automate marine transactions and improve operational efficiencies and data quality, is to be the first of several planned RPA initiatives.

The initiative was led by Darren Sharp, group head of IT at TMK and the technology implementation was undertaken by NTT DATA UK using its robotics-as-a-service BluePrism platform.

“While originally an experiment initiated by the IT department, TMK is now embracing RPA technology,” Sharp commented.

“Following a clear demonstration of the impressive benefits, the business is actively identifying and prioritising further improvement opportunities, with a growing list of processes ripe for automation.”

Sharp added, “The cloud-based service is extremely cost effective, frees us from traditional infrastructure constraints and allows some of the services that IT delivers to scale up as rapidly as the business needs them to.”
