W. R. Berkley makes senior executive changes

W. R. Berkley Corporation has announced the additions of James Gilbert as Executive Vice President – enterprise technology and Nelson Tavares as Executive Vice President with responsibility for the oversight of certain operating units.

BerkleySince 2018, Gilbert has served as Executive Vice President with responsibility for the oversight of certain operating units.

He first joined the firm in 2006 as BerkleyNet’s Senior Vice President of Actuarial and Operations, before being appointed President of this unit in 2014.

Tavares joined W. R. Berkley in 2011 as Senior Vice President, Claims, and brings more than three decades of insurance industry experience to his new role.

Commenting on the appointments, W. Robert Berkley, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of W. R. Berkley, said: “Jim and Nelson have both made significant contributions to the long-term success of our organization. Jim is particularly experienced in the application of technology to business needs, whereas Nelson’s management expertise will bring a valuable perspective to our underwriting operations.
