Specialist Risk Group (SRG), an insurance intermediary backed by Warburg Pincus and Temasek, has announced the appointment of Richard Gurney to the newly created role of Head of Specialty.
The new leadership position is designed to accelerate the build-out of SRG’s international specialty proposition.
In this role, Gurney joins the Group Executive Committee and will be responsible for deepening and internationalising SRG’s existing specialty offerings, while also identifying and investing in new areas where the group can deliver greater value for clients.
He brings more than three decades of industry experience, spanning claims, global construction, and specialty placements, with a strong track record in designing and delivering complex, multi-territory programmes for international clients.
Gurney joins SRG from Marsh, where he served as Global Head of Construction. Prior to that, he spent more than a decade at JLT in a range of specialty roles, most recently as Global Specialty Leader, Construction, and Global Head of Claims.

Gurney’s appointment follows the recent hires of Neil Nimmo as CEO – UK in June 2025, and Sasa Brcerevic as the group’s first Chief Commercial Officer, effective 1 November 2025. These appointments align with SRG’s goal of strengthening its leadership bench as it enters its next phase of growth.
