Aspen names MS Amlin exec Rob Houghton group COO

Bermudian re/insurer Aspen has added Rob Houghton as Group Chief Operating Officer, a role he’s set to begin in early 2022.

Aspen logoHoughton joins from MS Amlin, where he served as both Group COO and, more recently, Chief Executive Officer of its Business Services unit.

Based in London, he will also be joining Aspen Group Executive Committee, succeeding Mike Cain ahead of his announced departure from Aspen next year.

The group COO position will see him take operational responsibility of Aspen while also ensuring the implementation of a robust IT strategy.

Bringing over 20 years’ experience across a variety of sectors, Houghton has lived and operated on a global basis with recent experience across North America and Europe.

“We are delighted to have appointed Rob to succeed Mike as Group COO,” said said Mark Cloutier, Executive Chairman and Group CEO.

“In addition to strong expertise in managing operations and IT within the insurance sector, Rob has a proven track record in supporting and delivering change management projects, which will be highly relevant as we continue to drive positive, long-term, transformation at Aspen,”

Cloutier also underlined an appreciation for Cain ands efforts towards ensuring a smooth handover.

“Mike has made a significant contribution to our business and been an invaluable source of advice and counsel, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” he added.

Commenting on his appointment, Houghton said, “Aspen is a highly regarded business undertaking an ambitious transformation and the opportunity to become part of their journey is a compelling one. I look forward to getting started and working closely with Mark and the team.”
